In the '60s and '70s, an “Index of Clan Names By Villages” was published by the American Consulate General in Hong Kong to investigate immigration fraud. I used the data to make vague guesses at where my grandparents’ villages were, based on romanized village and family names. This piece presents three layered and masked screenshots from the closest Google Street View images I could get to these locations. It captures an idea of place, of a homeland/motherland, though all of it is likely wrong.
